About this trip

Dear Friends,

It is my pleasure to invite you to join us on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela by the French Way. This twelve (12) day journey through France into Spain will take us to beautiful, historic, and religiously significant locations that are sure to raise our hearts and minds to authentic and unexpected encounters with our God and so many Saints in these beautiful countries. Over the course of the pilgrimage, we will walk nearly seventy-five (75) miles as we enter this portion of the Camino, which makes it a truly unique experience.
A pilgrimage is a microcosm of life, our journey towards heaven. Each of us will endeavor to make this pilgrimage for our own reasons, but what God will offer us on this journey will far surpass our own designs. I do hope you will prayerfully consider this opportunity to take a pilgrimage of faith in prayer, meditation, and community with us. As space is limited, reservations should be made as soon as possible.

With the tenderness, compassion, and mercy of the loving Savior,

Fr. Dalton - frdalton@stphilipapostle.org

The cathedral of Leon was built starting in 1205 by workers of French origin who brought the culture of the great Gothic cathedrals to Spain. It took two centuries to complete but since then its great and fragile beauty has enchanted the main square. The atmosphere and sensations when walking next to and inside it are strong, the smell of stone and incense which for centuries have perfumed the walls give a great sense of peace but also of mystery. After crossing the woods, the path winds through rural landscapes and small villages until the descent alongside the Rio Mino until arriving in Portomarin, the final stage of today’s pilgrimage. Check-in to accommodations. Holy Mass. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 7 – PORTOMARIN/PALAS DEL REI – (25 Km)

Breakfast at the hotel. We departure for the third stage of the French way. After leaving Portomarin, we proceed in the direction of Castromaior. We then proceed to Ligonde and Villar de Dona up to Palas del Rei which owes its name to a Royal Palace built nearby. Check-in to accommodations. Holy Mass. Dinner and overnight.

Los Romeiros, a traditional meeting place where the groups

spontaneously created along the way would reunite. We

then continue to the Pambre Castle and then to Melide, the

geographic center of Galicia, a crossroads of union with

the Primitive Way and one of the jewels of civil architecture of the French Way. Our pilgrimage continues to Arzua. Holy Mass. Check-in to accommodations. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 9 – ARZUA/ARCA – O PINO – (19,5 Km)

On Mount Gozo, Pope John Paul II held a celebration with the young people during the World Youth Day of 1989. After 5 km of descent, we enter Santiago through the Porta do Camino and reach the squares of Cervatez and Acibecheria to arrive in Piazza del Obradoiro, our final destination of our pilgrimage.
